SOS Youth Community Brno
“We don’t do anything special. We only want to give our children what other children have had all along.” – Hermann Gmeiner
The Youth Community is an educational facility of the SOS Children’s Villages Association which is linked to the foster care provided by a foster mother in an SOS Children’s Village. The foster mother continues to be an important figure in the process and she closely cooperates with Youth Community’s educational team.
The educational and teaching activity of the Youth Community team is particularly focused on high-quality preparation for future vocations, acquiring valuable life experiences and developing work skills. Teachers work with young people on their personal development using various social, sporting and cultural activities. The team applies the principles of experiential education and social education in its work. Part of its educational activity comprises group work and individual planning.
For the most part, those who come to the Youth Community are young people who have completed their basic nine years of school attendance and are beginning further studies or starting permanent employment. Each member of the youth community is in the care of a teacher/guide who works with the young person on their development and their passage to living an independent life. They respect each young person’s personality and provide them with help and support when it comes to study, work and personal issues. The educational worker cooperates closely with the foster mother.
